Who am I?

Hi! My name is Roman Karoly. I went from folding origami cranes in the 3rd grade to bringing characters to life for games and movies. What started as folding a flapping wing on a doodle littered desk has evolved into exploring the math needed to make an arm move. I’ve always been a 3D artist at heart, and I’m so excited to be on this adventure.
My passion for rigging comes from the balance between technical puzzles and beautiful art. There’s something special about watching a static model turn into a living, breathing character. Being able to tell stories with my work makes me incredibly proud, and I strive to show the best of what I have to offer.
I constantly challenge myself to not only achieve, but to exceed whatever it is I set my mind to. This is the core mindset I bring to my craft, and my work is constantly evolving as I grow, both as an artist and a person. In doing this, I’ve pushed myself to learn challenges like matrix math rigging, tool development, and multi-software pipelines. My most recent dive had me analyzing the microseconds it took for a scene to evaluate my rig and how to save on even more time to improve evaluation efficiency. I love learning how things work and being able to share what I’ve discovered.
Outside of rigging, I keep myself busy with enough hobbies to fill up any day of the week. I’m an avid hiker, runner, skier, bass guitar player, disc golfer, gamer, and (low level) hockey player. If it also wasn’t obvious enough, I’m a huge hockey fan, and I’ve been cheering on my hometown Canes before I could even walk! I value balance in work and life, and I’ve found that some of the best inspiration I can have comes from the things I do to enjoy the world around me.
I hope you enjoy going through my website! Know that behind every project were hours of jam-filled enjoyment. At no point did I drag myself to complete anything, rather I eagerly put myself forward to show my passion. This is what I’m happiest doing, and I hope it’s reflected in my work :]
